Valve: Steam Machine Better Than 70% of Home PCs

A Valve engineer stated that the Steam Machine will perform as well as — or surpass — most current home PCs. The company examined the Steam Hardware Survey to determine an optimal hardware configuration. Their aim is to spare players from worrying about whether their favorite games will run.

In an interview, Yazan Aldehayat from Valve explained how they selected the technical specifications. The Steam Hardware Survey helped identify the most common setups: six-core CPUs and GPUs comparable to an RTX 3060.

Older GPUs and CPUs remain widely used: 3.05% of players still run a GTX 1650, while 1.9% use Intel Iris Xe — both noticeably less capable than the Steam Machine’s 28‑CU RDNA 3 GPU.

«We analyzed the Steam Hardware Survey results. It gives us a reliable picture of home system performance. The Steam Machine matches or exceeds approximately 70% of the systems people currently own», the engineer noted. Valve assures players they will be able to run all their games smoothly thanks to the selected specifications.
