God of War Ragnarök Is PlayStation Studios’ Most Profitable PS5 Game, Analysts Say
God of War: Ragnarok has sold 21.6 million copies and generated approximately $1.4 billion for Sony, according to estimates from analytics firm Alinea Analytics. The Santa Monica Studio game continues to find buyers years after release.
Alinea Analytics estimates that 20.1 million copies were purchased on PlayStation consoles, with PS5 accounting for 75.2% of those sales. Steam users bought another 1.6 million copies. The estimated $1.4 billion in total revenue makes it PlayStation Studios’ most profitable first-party game of the current console generation.
In 2026, God of War: Ragnarok has been purchased another 1.1 million times, generating nearly $60 million. About 68% of that revenue came from sales on PlayStation platforms. The game has also outsold new releases including Gears of War: E-Day and Saros this year.

God of War: Ragnarok has also been available to PlayStation Plus Extra subscribers for about two years. Analysts estimate that 6.7 million users have played it through the service. Its availability through the subscription has not stopped it from attracting buyers. The results show how long major Sony games can remain profitable after release.
