CS2 has long become more than a competitive shooter — it’s a vibrant marketplace for virtual assets.
Recently, a well-known collector of in-game skins and stickers in Counter-Strike 2 fell victim to fraudsters.
The account belonging to the user known as Hawkeye337 held assets valued at roughly $250,000 (about 20 million ₽). The attackers gained control of his account and demanded 1 BTC (approximately ₽7.7 million).
The threat was carried out: extremely rare stickers were applied to a standard skin, effectively destroying their collector value.
Fortunately, the story had a happy ending — Hawkeye337 soon reported that Valve support had responded: his account was restored and his items were returned.
They returned everything! Every single sticker! My hands are trembling… I have no words. From the bottom of my heart, thank you to Valve and everyone who reposted and helped get my account back!
Hawkeye337 explained that a mistake by Steam support allowed the attackers to reclaim his account, bypassing multiple protections including Steam Guard. He also shared Valve’s response:
The support agent who handled the help request did not follow our procedure, which allowed someone else to restore access to your account. We apologize for this error.
