Unreleased Nvidia DLSS 5 Tested With Mixed Results
Files for the unreleased DLSS 5 technology leaked inside NBA 2K27 data, allowing enthusiasts to test the upcoming feature early in Control. The initial tests demonstrated a noticeable boost in visual detail, though performance on an RTX 5070 Ti at 4K dropped by half.
DLSS 5 is scheduled to launch officially in the fall. Its primary addition is neural rendering, which reconstructs missing details rather than simply upscaling the image. The technology uses algorithms like Neural Radiance Fields (NeRF) to build a spatial model from standard 2D textures.
The RenoDX team obtained the DLSS 5 libraries and ran tests in Control, finding marked improvements in facial detail for Jesse Faden. The developers also reported a severe performance penalty, with frame rates on an RTX 5070 Ti in 4K falling by roughly 50% once neural rendering was enabled.

Tests also showed that DLSS 5 NR currently takes the same input data as standard DLSS, with the neural layer applied at the end of the pipeline after upscaling and tone mapping. HDR does not function in its current state, indicating that the technology will undergo further adjustments before release.
