Twitch Shares Streamer Data With Amazon to Train AI

Twitch is facing backlash over its new data privacy rules.

The platform has begun using streams, VODs, audio, and chat messages to train Amazon generative AI models. The new feature is enabled by default for all accounts.

The data collection came to light after support published an opt-out guide. Twitch Chief Product Officer Mike Minton acknowledged that if informed user consent were required, nobody would turn the feature on voluntarily.

Contradictory statements from Twitch worsened the situation: the official platform account denied training its own models, while the FAQ explicitly states that data is shared with Amazon.

Streamers can disable the collection in their privacy settings, but Twitch did not announce this. Right now, algorithms are capturing images, streamers’ voices, and footage of the games they show during broadcasts.
