Trailer for Canceled Mass Effect 5 Leaks Online, Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier Says It Is Real
BioWare was working on the game right up until the studio closed.
What appears to be a genuine trailer for the next Mass Effect, which BioWare was developing before the studio shut down, has surfaced online. The video, titled Mass Effect: Universe, was posted on Reddit the day after news broke that the studio had ceased operations and the new game in the series had been canceled.
The authenticity of the video was initially in question. Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier then confirmed on Bluesky that the trailer is real and that BioWare was indeed working on the game until the closure.
Because of copyright restrictions and possible action by rights holders, we cannot embed the trailer. It is still online for now, and you can find it by searching for “Mass Effect Universe trailer.”
The video has the atmosphere typical of Mass Effect, fitting music and what is believed to be the voice of Liara T’Soni. Shepard does not appear in it. The protagonist was meant to be a new character who resembles the commander familiar to fans in both looks and behavior. The character’s uniform also lacks the N7 emblem, which may point to a different path for the hero, such as earning the rank over the course of the game.
Shortly before the video appeared, a Reddit user who identified himself as an Electronic Arts employee claimed that a trailer for the new Mass Effect was already finished. According to him, the project was further along in development than previously believed.
