Saber Interactive Head Calls AA Games Like Hellraiser: Revival the Future of the Industry
Less financial risk, more creative freedom.
Saber Interactive CEO Matthew Karch says AA games with relatively modest budgets could be one of the key factors in the games industry’s survival and continued growth. In his view, developers should pay more attention to these projects because they carry less financial risk and can deliver a higher return than expensive blockbusters.
Karch pointed to the horror game Hellraiser: Revival as an example. The head of the studio said the game is performing very well on PC and consoles.
This game confirms the idea that a well-known intellectual property and high-quality AA development with controlled costs can deliver excellent results and high user ratings.

Karch believes the industry’s future lies in developing more mid-budget projects based on well-known franchises, rather than focusing solely on large-scale AAA blockbusters.
I believe that a stronger focus on these mid-tier projects instead of giant AAA games is the way to sustain the growth and momentum of the games industry. Properly designed and well-funded AAA projects will always have their place, but an AA game that offers deep immersion at a lower price carries less risk and, on average, can deliver a significantly higher return.
