The Witcher’s Geralt Returns in New 2026 Release
Witcher fans have plenty to anticipate. A remaster of The Witcher 3 is on the way, along with the Songs of the Past expansion. The Witcher 4 is expected sometime in 2028. Those fans likely know that the games are based on an iconic book series, as is the Netflix show. They may be glad to hear that author Andrzej Sapkowski has more planned.
At a recent convention appearance in Poland, Sapkowski confirmed that he is working on the next Witcher book. He expects to finish writing it by the end of 2027. Witcher news site Redanian Intelligence reports that the book should star Geralt again. Sapkowski said he does not plan to write Witcher books about other characters, such as Yennefer.
Is another The Witcher prequel starring Geralt on the way?
The most recent Witcher book is 2025’s The Witcher: Crossroads of Ravens. It is a prequel about young Geralt’s first big adventure as a Witcher. Geralt is middle-aged in the short story collections and novels, so many years of his life remain unexplored. Sapkowski knows it.

In an interview with IGN, he was asked whether there is room for more prequels about Geralt’s formative years. He answered, “Sky is the limit.” He also said, “I am considering writing more short stories.” The Witcher series began with a short story, and Sapkowski published two collections before the first novel, Blood of Elves.

He still finds short stories a distinct challenge. “It is not an easy thing to create a good short story. This is much more difficult than writing a novel,” Sapkowski said.

Whether the next book follows a young Geralt or an experienced one, Sapkowski aims to complete it by the end of next year. Redanian Intelligence noted that Polish readers could have it by late 2027 or early 2028 if he finishes on time. If the Crossroads of Ravens release schedule holds, international readers could get it about a year later.
