Todd Howard recently appeared on the Fallout Day livestream with a notable announcement. He acknowledged fans’ disappointment over the absence of new entries in the series in recent years, but reassured listeners that Bethesda is actively working on new Fallout projects.
The studio also marked the 10th anniversary of Fallout 4. As part of the celebration, updated editions of Fallout 4 and New Vegas were announced, though no brand-new titles were unveiled. Howard, however, offered encouraging news: after a long period of silence, development on the franchise has resumed. Precise details remain premature, but further information is expected soon.
Many fans were disheartened by the lack of announcements—since Fallout 76’s 2018 release there haven’t been new mainline games. During the stream Howard confirmed that work on the franchise is underway. That could encompass remasters as well as entirely new titles. Rumors of a Fallout 3 remaster are already circulating, though it isn’t expected to launch in the near term.
“We read all the fans’ feedback. Please know we’re developing many more projects, and we can’t wait for the day we can share them.”
There are also whispers about Fallout 5 — the next core installment in the series. While that remains speculative, the existence of a major new project has been confirmed.
