The Witcher’s erotic cards looked strange because a shy developer hid his colorblindness

A developer kept his private medical condition hidden from the rest of the production team.

The original *The Witcher* featured collectible “romance cards” depicting various female characters. Eagle-eyed fans quickly noticed a strange discrepancy: the color palettes on these cards often failed to match the actual character models seen within the game.

As it turns out, CD Projekt RED never intended for these inconsistencies to exist. Scriptwriter Artur Ganszyniec recently shed light on this peculiar production detail, revealing that a key developer involved in the process was actually colorblind.

Ganszyniec explained that the staff member responsible for the coloring was simply too embarrassed to disclose his vision deficiency to his colleagues during the project.

While this explains the origin of the error, the writer did not elaborate on why the visual assets weren’t cross-referenced or caught by quality assurance before the game hit the shelves.
