The quintessential side-scrolling brawler, Konami’s legendary X-Men arcade game, is set for a modern resurgence. In a collaborative effort, Konami, Marvel Games, and Limited Run Games have unveiled the Marvel MaXimum Collection, a comprehensive bundle that celebrates an eclectic era of 8-bit and 16-bit superhero history. While the 1992 X-Men cabinet is the headliner, the collection also revives genre-defining staples like Captain America and The Avengers and the notoriously punishing NES cult classic, Silver Surfer.

This retro anthology features six distinct Marvel titles spanning 13 different iterations, originally optimized for a variety of platforms including the Arcade, Game Boy, Game Gear, NES, Sega Genesis, and Super NES. Beyond the mutant-focused action, the package is a treasure trove for fans of the Web-Slinger. The lineup includes the symbiotic chaos of Spider-Man/Venom: Maximum Carnage and Venom/Spider-Man: Separation Anxiety, alongside the multi-hero crossover Spider-Man/X-Men: Arcade’s Revenge.

The Marvel MaXimum Collection comprehensive roster includes:

  • X-Men: The Arcade Game (Arcade)
  • Captain America and The Avengers (Arcade, Sega Genesis/Mega Drive, NES)
  • Spider-Man/Venom: Maximum Carnage (Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis/Mega Drive)
  • Venom/Spider-Man: Separation Anxiety (Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis/Mega Drive)
  • Spider-Man/X-Men: Arcade’s Revenge (Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis/Mega Drive, Game Boy, Game Gear)
  • Silver Surfer (NES)

The flagship X-Men title has been enhanced with six-player online multiplayer supported by rollback netcode, meticulously designed to replicate the communal experience of a crowded arcade floor. Furthermore, modern quality-of-life additions such as save states and a rewind function finally provide players with a fighting chance to conquer the grueling difficulty of the Silver Surfer title more than three decades after its debut.

In addition to the gameplay, the Marvel MaXimum Collection serves as a digital museum. An integrated Archive section offers high-fidelity scans of original box art, instructional manuals, and vintage promotional materials. Enthusiasts can also enjoy a dedicated music player and various display filters, including CRT and scanline effects, to capture that authentic retro aesthetic on high-definition screens.

While a specific launch date remains under wraps, the Marvel MaXimum Collection is slated to arrive “soon” on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC via Steam.

The release marks a pivotal moment in a blockbuster year for the brand, as 2026 is also scheduled to see the debut of Marvel’s Wolverine, Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, and Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra.
