CD Projekt RED Reveals When Edgerunners 2 Takes Place, Says It Is Not a Cyberpunk 2077 Prequel
CD Projekt RED has clarified the timeline of the new anime after some viewers misjudged where it fits in Night City’s history.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is set in 2078. Patrick Mills, a Cyberpunk universe expert at CD Projekt RED, confirmed the date and noted that many viewers mistook the sequel for a prequel to Cyberpunk 2077:
“I see that many people assume the second season takes place before 2077. But that’s not the case: it is set in 2078.”
The two seasons therefore fall on opposite sides of V’s story. The first followed David Martinez and his crew about a year before the start of Cyberpunk 2077, while the second shows Night City after the events of the game.

All 10 episodes of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 arrived on Netflix on October 20. Cyberpunk 2077 is set to receive update 2.5, which adds anime-related content, on October 22. CD Projekt RED planned to share details during a REDstreams broadcast on October 21, starting at 6:00 p.m. Moscow time.
