The first trailer for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 looks nearly as good as the first season

If you harbored any doubts about whether Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 could maintain the frantic, high-octane energy of its predecessor, Studio Trigger has effectively silenced them. Netflix has unveiled the primary trailer for the upcoming sci-fi anthology—slated for a fall release—and it is an absolute visual and auditory assault.

The footage offers an exhilarating glimpse at our new quartet of protagonists, showcasing a montage of brutal encounters, neon-drenched chaos, and raw, retro-style recordings. Much of the narrative appears to be filtered through the lens of Roman Carax, a young analog enthusiast obsessed with capturing the grit of Night City. His journey into the underworld brings him into the orbit of a dangerous, hyper-violent crew.

The lineup includes D, a Snake Nation netrunner seeking vengeance for his lost kin; the agile former corporate operative Talia Yang; and “King” Kingsley, a grizzled mercenary whose twitching, cybernetic eyes betray the onset of full-blown cyberpsychosis. King’s showcase of lethal efficiency is undeniably striking. Complementing the carnage is the brooding anthem “You Can’t Run From Me”—penned by Maria Kelly and Drew Polovick and delivered by Rico Nasty—which perfectly encapsulates the series’ signature angst.

While the trailer favors kinetic impact over plot specifics, it’s clear the animation quality remains top-tier. Although Studio Trigger visionary Hiroyuki Imaishi is stepping back from the director’s chair, the helm is capably occupied by former animation co-director Kai Ikarashi. With showrunner Bartosz Sztybor and writer Masahiko Otsuka returning, alongside lead character designer Ichigo Kanno, the creative DNA of the show feels well-preserved.

This 10-episode standalone chapter returns us to the unforgiving universe of CD Projekt’s Cyberpunk 2077, promising the same bleak beauty the franchise is known for. Given the original Edgerunners series was a massive critical darling that helped breathe new life into the Cyberpunk 2077 gaming experience, expectations are understandably high. Based on this teaser, the successor is poised to deliver another unforgettable descent into the dark future.
