The Fast & The Furious Returns to Theaters (But Not to End the Saga)

Twenty-five years ago, the Fast and Furious saga made its modest debut with a high-octane thriller centered on illicit street racing, a compromised undercover detective, and a spree of stolen electronics. As the franchise hits its quarter-century milestone, Universal is bringing the original The Fast and the Furious back to the big screen, offering audiences a nostalgic trip through the quintessential car culture of early-2000s Los Angeles.

<p>Universal Pictures confirmed on Thursday that director Rob Cohen’s high-speed classic will return to theaters on August 21 as part of a 25th-anniversary commemorative release. <p>Since its inception, the franchise has evolved from a grassroots racing story into a global multi-billion dollar juggernaut. While the original earned over $207 million worldwide, the series reached its zenith with 2015’s <em>Furious 7</em>, which shattered records with a staggering $1.5 billion haul. Following 2023’s <em>Fast X</em>, momentum is already building for the grand finale of the main saga, <em>Fast Forever</em>, currently slated for a March 2028 debut.</p>
