The creators of “Stranger Things” confirmed Eddie Munson’s fate in season five
Fans will have to accept the finality of Stranger Things’ fourth-season ending.
The show’s creators, Matt and Ross Duffer, have confirmed that actor Joseph Quinn will not return as Eddie Munson in Season 5. In an interview with Empire, Matt Duffer said the character is definitively dead.
“I like that Joe keeps the curiosity alive, but no — he’s dead. He’s gone on to appear in five films since season four and simply doesn’t have time for Stranger Things. Unfortunately, that’s it — Eddie is buried.”
In Season 4, Eddie — leader of the Hellfire Club — sacrificed himself to help his friends in the fight against Vecna. The sequence became one of the series’ most unforgettable moments: Eddie performs Metallica’s “Master of Puppets” as the finale unfolds. Even after his death, many viewers hoped he might return.
The fifth and final season of Stranger Things will premiere on Netflix on November 26, 2025, delivering an epic conclusion to the story.
