The actor for the new RoboCop has been revealed
British actor Dan Stevens, known for his roles in Beauty and the Beast and Downton Abbey, has been cast as the lead in Amazon Prime Video’s upcoming RoboCop series, as reported by Deadline.
The television reimagining will be spearheaded by showrunner Peter Ocko (The Office, Lodge 49) alongside producer James Wan (The Conjuring, Insidious). The original RoboCop, directed by Paul Verhoeven, premiered in 1987.
The narrative centered on Alex Murphy, an officer who, after suffering near-fatal injuries in the line of duty, is resurrected as a formidable cyborg law enforcer. The film garnered widespread acclaim from both critics and audiences, eventually cementing its status as a cyberpunk masterpiece.
While RoboCop has already spawned several sequels and a 2014 feature-length remake, specific plot details regarding this new series remain under wraps. Audiences can look forward to seeing Stevens next in the A24 action thriller Onslaught this fall.
