An alleged screenplay for the upcoming Resident Evil film has surfaced online. If early descriptions are accurate, this latest cinematic adaptation may lean heavily into the realm of horror-comedy.
According to reports from Kotaku, the full script for Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil project briefly appeared on the web before being aggressively scrubbed from most platforms. Despite these efforts, detailed summaries and discussions regarding its content continue to propagate across the internet.
Those who managed to review the text claim the story unfolds in Raccoon City during the height of the viral outbreak. The narrative centers on Brian (played by Austin Abrams), an organ courier attempting to navigate the chaotic streets to reach his pregnant wife. Compounding the danger, the protagonist is himself infected with the T-virus, turning his journey into a frantic race against time.
The primary source of debate among fans, however, is not the premise but the tone. Reports suggest the film is punctuated by comedic beats and absurdist situations, bordering on a farce.
Brian reportedly finds himself in a series of bizarre predicaments involving undead hounds, zombie infants, and a morbidly obese creature capable of spitting acid.
A segment of the community fears this stylistic choice deviates too sharply from the atmosphere of the original Capcom games. While the timeline aligns with Cregger’s previous assertions that the film occurs parallel to the events of Resident Evil 2 and 3, some have formed the impression that the project may have begun as an original horror script that was later retrofitted into the Resident Evil franchise.
Such speculation has followed Cregger’s previous work, including “Barbarian” and “Weapons.” Nevertheless, it remains unclear how closely this leaked draft reflects the final theatrical cut, as early scripts are frequently overhauled before reaching the screen.
The new Resident Evil film is currently slated for a premiere on September 18.
