Techland’s latest title, Dying Light: The Beast, debuted last September on PC and current-gen consoles. While there were initial intentions to port the experience to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, the developer has officially scrapped those plans.

In a recent announcement shared via X, Techland confirmed that the last-gen versions have been canceled, citing insurmountable technical hurdles. The studio explained that the game was architected specifically to leverage the capabilities of modern hardware, making a viable port to older consoles impossible without compromising the core experience.

Dying Light: The Beast was built from the ground up to take full advantage of current-generation hardware,” the studio stated. “Its open world, advanced visuals, and fluid combat and traversal all depend on processing power and memory that previous-generation consoles simply cannot provide. As development progressed, it became clear that bringing the game to those platforms would require compromises that would prevent us from delivering the experience we set out to create.”

The team emphasized that this decision was born from a commitment to quality rather than a lack of desire to support legacy players. Techland has confirmed that anyone who may have pre-ordered or expected a release on PS4 or Xbox One is eligible for a full refund.

Since its launch on September 19, 2025, Dying Light: The Beast—which sees the return of franchise protagonist Kyle Crane and his newfound mutated abilities—has been well-received, earning an 8.5/10 in our official review. For those already playing on supported platforms, the recently released Restored Land edition offers a fresh way to engage with the game, featuring a robust, persistent survival mode alongside all previously released content.
