Team Cherry saddened that Hollow Knight: Silksong forced other indie studios to delay their game releases

The developers admitted they themselves weren’t really certain when their game would be finished.

Team Cherry described it as “disheartening” that the September launch of Hollow Knight: Silksong disrupted the release schedules of other indie titles.

In an interview with Bloomberg, studio co‑founder Ari Gibson said the team was “racing” to complete development and didn’t know the exact release date until the final moments.

We even felt we had little control over the launch date and ended up working right up until the last minute. Once we decided the game was ready to ship — boom — we released it.
Ari Gibson, co‑founder of Team Cherry.

Team Cherry revealed the release date just two weeks before the game went live. Jonathan Jacques‑Belletête, creative director of Hell is Us, at the time called the Australians’ move “heartless.” Necrosoft delayed the premiere of Demonschool, saying that “Silksong simply captured everyone’s attention.”
