How STL Used Euro Truck Simulator 2 to Introduce Trucking Careers

Sectorinstituut Transport en Logistiek, or STL, used Euro Truck Simulator 2 as an additional way to introduce students to truck-driving work. SCS Software and STL communications strategist Robin Maes described the cooperation in March 2025.

What STL does

The organization was formed in 2014 through a merger of several Dutch sector bodies. STL helps recruit people into transport and logistics, guides students toward education programs and training companies, and supports workers already employed in the sector.

Robin Maes said that STL was taking on almost 1,000 new students per year at the time of the interview. Its school roadshows reached about 150 schools and roughly 10,000 students between the ages of 12 and 17.

The role of Euro Truck Simulator 2

Students registered through STL received a Steam code for Euro Truck Simulator 2. The game helped maintain their interest between registration and the start of education and gave them a way to explore virtual truck driving in their own time.

The game did not replace professional training

SCS Software stated that ETS2 was not integrated into STL’s formal courses. The organization connected students with schools and training companies and guided them through the program. STL’s current website describes its BBL format as four working days at an accredited training company and one school day per week. Depending on the program, earning the vocational diploma takes from one to four years.
