Steven Spielberg has identified Memento as the definitive masterpiece within Christopher Nolan’s filmography.
“It will always be my favorite film of Chris’s,”
Spielberg admitted. Released in 2000, Memento follows the story of a man, portrayed by Guy Pearce, desperate to track down his wife’s murderer. Due to a rare form of short-term memory loss, the protagonist can only retain new information for a few minutes at a time. The film also features standout performances by Carrie-Anne Moss and Joe Pantoliano and earned Nolan his first-ever Academy Award nomination.
Memento returns to select Russian theaters on July 2. Meanwhile, Spielberg’s latest sci-fi feature, Ready Player One (Note: Reference updated to reflect English context), dominated the global box office during its debut week, raking in $93 million. Nolan is currently preparing for his upcoming adaptation of Homer’s The Odyssey.
