Oscar winner Glen Hansard dies in a car accident

Irish musician, actor, and Academy Award winner Glen Hansard has died at the age of 56 following a motorcycle accident. The tragic incident occurred on the morning of July 29 near Dublin. Authorities reported that Hansard was involved in a single-vehicle crash and succumbed to his injuries shortly after emergency responders arrived on the scene.

Hansard achieved global recognition for his work on the musical film Once, in which he not only starred but also co-wrote the hit song “Falling Slowly” with Markéta Irglová. The track won the Oscar for Best Original Song in 2008 and later inspired a hit Broadway musical, which went on to secure eight Tony Awards.

Prior to his international breakthrough, Hansard gained prominence as the frontman of the Irish rock band The Frames and was a member of the duo The Swell Season. Beyond his distinguished musical career, he was a screen actor and a dedicated philanthropist, known for organizing annual Christmas Eve busking events in Dublin to raise funds for the homeless.
