Stephen King Responds to Prime Video Carrie Miniseries

Amazon’s upcoming adaptation of the 1974 horror novel Carrie has already earned praise from Stephen King. The author whose career began with the novel shared his early impressions of the project.

Posting on Threads, Stephen King called the new series brilliant. He added that what it has to say about social media is shocking and true. Mike Flanagan directs the Amazon adaptation, updating the classic story by incorporating smartphones and cyberbullying. While the plot and characterization of Carrie remain largely the same, the addition of modern technology brings a new angle to the narrative.

Summer H. Howell stars as Carrie. The cast also features Samantha Sloyan as Margaret White, Siena Agudong as Sue Snell, Amber Midthunder as Miss Desjardin, Alison Thornton as Chris Hargensen, Joel Oulette as Tommy Ross, Josie Totah as Tina, Arthur Conti as Billy, Thalia Dudek as Emaline, and Matthew Lillard as Principal Grayle. Guest stars include Michael Trucco, Crystal Balint, Kate Siegel, Rahul Kohli, Tim Bagley, and Heather Graham.

When does Carrie premiere?

The eight-episode miniseries launches on Oct. 7, with all episodes releasing at once on Amazon Prime Video. Mike Flanagan previously directed other Stephen King adaptations, including 2017’s Gerald’s Game and 2019’s Doctor Sleep, alongside horror shows such as The Haunting of Hill House and Midnight Mass. Following Carrie, Mike Flanagan and Stephen King will collaborate on an adaptation of The Mist.
