Steam Hit Wardogs Confirmed for Console Release This Year
Following a series of exceptionally well-received beta phases and closed playtests, the arrival of Wardogs is finally upon us. To commemorate its official Steam Early Access debut, developer Bulkhead has rolled out a striking launch trailer that draws clear inspiration from the iconic, nostalgic Halo 3 promotional campaign, “Believe.”
Alongside this cinematic showcase, Bulkhead has officially outlined a console release window for Wardogs on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
Bulkhead confirmed on Thursday that Wardogs is slated to arrive on PS5 and Xbox systems in 2028. Fans can begin wishlisting the tactical shooter across both platforms today, though players should prepare for a lengthy wait before diving into the action—particularly if the rollout lands toward the latter half of that year. Given the timeline, there remains a distinct possibility that the release could coincide with the dawn of next-generation hardware, potentially paving the way for eventual ports to the PlayStation 6 and Microsoft’s successor architecture.
The overarching ethos for the Wardogs launch—”play like you used to”—serves as a deliberate tribute to “an era when multiplayer gaming was inherently social, delightfully unpredictable, and remarkably difficult to put down,” as outlined in a recent press release. With beta participation peaking at an impressive 245,118 concurrent players according to SteamDB, it is abundantly clear that the community harbors a massive appetite for this style of old-school first-person shooter.
“Wardogs is ambitious, decidedly unpolished in areas, and still has a long journey ahead of it—which is precisely how Early Access should function,” expressed Joe Brammer, CEO of Bulkhead. “We are placing the game directly into the community’s hands, actively absorbing their feedback, and taking calculated risks to shape it into something enduring. Above all else, we want people logging on, connecting with one another, and experiencing the genuine camaraderie and unfiltered fun in an FPS that defined our own gaming upbringing.”
