Star Wars: Galactic Racer Developer Criticizes Constant Racing Rewards
Star Wars: Galactic Racer will offer more frequent challenges to players because constant rewards lose their effect over time, according to Fuse Games head Matt Webster.
During an interview, Fuse Games head Matt Webster cited the Burnout series as an example, where players were constantly rewarded with new cars and other items.
Games need to challenge players. In Burnout, rewards were constantly being thrown at you: a dopamine rush, reward, reward, car, car, car! Eventually, if everything comes down to the same thing, you stop noticing it.
In Star Wars: Galactic Racer, the studio wants to make even a fifth-place finish a source of pride after a tough race. At the same time, the game alternates intense races with calmer moments, allowing players to immerse themselves in the Star Wars atmosphere.
Webster previously noted that modern players are capable of handling greater cognitive loads. Because of this, racers will need to monitor boosters and ability cooldowns, as well as fix malfunctions at speeds of up to 435 mph (700 km/h).
Star Wars: Galactic Racer has been released on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
