Square Enix Fires Narrative Designer Who Criticized the Industry for Too Many “White Guys”

Earlier, the Japanese company announced plans to lay off the majority of staff at its offices in the United States, the United Kingdom, and across Europe.

Rhianna Gorman-Murphy, a narrative designer at Square Enix who worked on Life Is Strange and served as a mentor for the Limit Break program — an initiative promoting greater representation of underrepresented groups in the games industry and aiming to reduce the sector’s reliance on white male candidates.

Unfortunately, I learned I was included in Square Enix’s layoffs while I was on my honeymoon. To be honest, I don’t even know what to do right now, so I’ll be sitting and reflecting on my future. Working at Square Enix was my dream — now that dream feels shattered.
