Spider-Man: Brand New Day Becomes Highest-Grossing Spider-Man Movie of All Time

Spider-Man: Brand New Day has earned more than $2 billion at the global box office in under three weeks. That milestone makes the latest Spider-Man entry the second-fastest movie to hit the $2 billion mark, trailing only Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Endgame.

Since opening on July 31, the film has generated $785 million in the United States and $1.236 billion internationally, according to data from Box Office Mojo. The movie previously surpassed $1 billion just six days into its theatrical run.

Only eight films in cinema history have reached the $2 billion threshold. Spider-Man: Brand New Day joins James Cameron’s Avatar, Avatar: The Way of Water, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, Ne Zha 2, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and Titanic. The original Avatar leads the group with a $2.9 billion total.

The previous entry in the series, Spider-Man: No Way Home, fell just short of the mark, ending its run with $1.9 billion in 2019. That release never played in Chinese theaters, which likely kept it from reaching the $2 billion level.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day launched with a $360 million domestic debut, securing the largest opening weekend in U.S. box office history. Worldwide, its $927 million opening weekend ranks second only to the $1.22 billion debut of Avengers: Endgame. The movie received an additional boost during its second weekend from an expanded IMAX rollout.

Strong ticket sales for Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Toy Story 5 have put the domestic box office on pace to top $10 billion for the first time since before the COVID-19 pandemic. The commercial momentum offers a welcome rebound for Disney following underperforming titles such as the live-action Moana remake and Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu.

Currently, Spider-Man: Brand New Day ranks as the fourth-highest-grossing domestic release of all time, sitting right behind Spider-Man: No Way Home. The production is on track to pass that predecessor and could challenge the domestic haul of Avengers: Endgame before leaving theaters. Topping the all-time domestic chart remains a steep climb, as Star Wars: The Force Awakens holds first place with $936 million.
