In a recent interview, the actress behind Sansa Stark shared her perspective on why she isn’t in a hurry to step back into the world of “Game of Thrones.”
During the promotional tour for her series “Joan,” Sophie Turner sat down for an exclusive conversation with The Direct, where she addressed the persistent rumors surrounding “Game of Thrones” sequels and her potential involvement. Discussing a return to her career-defining role, Turner admitted that such a move would be both a daunting challenge and an alluring prospect.
When asked directly if she would be interested in reprising the role, Turner initially offered a playful disclaimer. “Show me the money first. I don’t know… I think it would be difficult, but at the same time, it would be wonderful,” the actress remarked, noting that seeing a solid script would be her primary requirement.
The series finale of “Game of Thrones” famously sparked a massive divide among fans and the cast alike. However, Turner revealed that, unlike some of her co-stars, she was genuinely pleased with how her character’s journey concluded in the eighth season. This sense of closure is precisely why she hesitates to return; she is wary of potentially tarnishing a finale she considers a success.
While Turner remains cautious, HBO continues to broaden George R.R. Martin’s cinematic universe. The author has previously mentioned that “five or six spin-offs” are currently in various stages of development. While the majority are envisioned as prequels, reports from outlets like Collider suggest that a few sequels are also being considered.
The next chapter for the franchise will be “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight,” which is slated to premiere on HBO Max on January 18. This upcoming series is an adaptation of Martin’s “Dunk and Egg” novellas.
Beyond the realm of Westeros, Turner is set to headline Amazon’s highly anticipated “Tomb Raider” series. Production on the project is scheduled to commence on January 19, 2026, marking a major new chapter in her career.
