Sony quietly altered PlayStation 5 cooling — engineers’ PS5 Pro‑style solutions inspire a modder

Recently, modder modyfikatorcasper observed that Sony quietly updated all new PlayStation 5 Slim units (model CFI-2116). The revisions apply to both the digital-only edition and the models with an optical drive.

This isn’t merely a patch — it’s a PS5 Pro–style cooling architecture rolled out early. A major step forward for the console’s longevity and operational stability. Liquid metal has been removed entirely, so the thermal interface degradation that affected earlier revisions should no longer be an issue. At this point, it appears to be the most stable PS5 variant available.
