The PS Portal, designed specifically for Remote Play, has emerged as the most popular way to play PlayStation remotely. Sony says roughly 5% of PS5 owners in the United States have already acquired the device.
Sony recently added cloud-streaming support for PS Plus Premium subscribers, enabling play directly from the cloud without a console and providing access to a library of over 2,800 titles.
In an interview, Senior Product Development Manager Takuro Fushimi said:
Our data indicate that PS Portal users are more active than other user groups. The PS Portal has become the most-used device for PS5 Remote Play, surpassing smartphones, PCs and even PS5 and PS4 consoles.
That’s hardly surprising — the device was purpose-built for Remote Play — but the numbers highlight just how successful it has become.
However, the outlook was very different before launch. In 2023, about 60% of nearly 6,000 respondents said they did not plan to buy the PS Portal, and 33% expressed no interest at all. Now that has shifted: 51% of participants in the latest survey report owning the device, and 32% use it at least once a week.
