Skeletal Dance Party hits the dance-floor at present

Deep down, everybody loves a great occasion and in accordance with Skeletal Dance Party these bones are desperate to shake all of it evening, even when the flesh is unwilling. Released at present by Catalope Games and No Studio In Particular, it’s an adorably bouncy physics’y spin on the dungeon crawler. Young necromancer Reva is throwing a dungeon dance occasion for her monster buddies and bony buddies. Sadly, the grumpy Temple Of Righteous Light frown on rowdy events (and blasphemously elevating the lifeless), in order that they’re making an attempt to place a cease to all this. Below, a smile-inducing launch trailer and a demo here.

Built on the charmingly wobbly foundations of the freeware Skeletal Dance Simulator (which you’ll be able to find on Itch here), Skeletal Dance Party is vaguely Pikmin-esque, however deliberately messier. Everything on this cute little voxel world is both flailing round to the beat, or inanimate and begging to both be knocked over or telekinetically thrown round. It’s so shiny and joyful that we’ll gloss over the truth that this lonely baby is on a (actually) unholy homicide rampage, changing the corpses of her foes into extra cheerful skelepals. Eh, no person likes paladins anyway.

From the bit I’ve performed of the demo (and I’m desperate to attempt the total game), there’s depth past skeleton japes. While you’re largely making an attempt to make sure that your skellington crew is greater than any enemies they stumble upon, there’s offensive spells to forged, different varieties of undead to lift and loot to seek out. Most of the gear is for the skeletons, who’ll choose up no matter hats, helmets, weapons or musical devices (they do love their trumpets) they discover mendacity about. Occasionally you’ll discover new wizard-hats or wands for Reva, although. Cartons of milk (good for sturdy bones) heal her, too.

While I’ve but to see how effectively the total game’s missions and side-quests stack up, Skeletal Dance Party seems like simply the sort of cheerful villainy we want for this remaining stretch of Skeleton Appreciation Month. We can all overlook just a few dozen murders if there’s a fantastic occasion and good buddies ready on the opposite facet, proper?

Skeletal Dance Party is out now on Steam and Itch (which gives a Steam key anyway) for £5.57/€6.65/$8.09, with a demo on the Itch retailer web page.
