Takeru Hokazono’s Kagurabachi has enjoyed a meteoric rise, evolving from a viral internet sensation into one of Weekly Shonen Jump’s most celebrated action titles. Even before its anime debut, the series has garnered intense anticipation. With the show’s premiere slated for April 2027, the production team has finally unveiled the inaugural character trailer and visual for the protagonist, Chihiro Rokuhira.

For those new to the series, Kagurabachi is a gripping tale of vengeance. The story follows Chihiro, who embarks on a dangerous quest to recover six enchanted blades forged by his father after a cadre of ruthless sorcerers murders him and seizes the weapons. While the manga’s initial online reception was defined by ironic memes, it has since earned widespread critical acclaim. Since its 2023 launch in Weekly Shonen Jump, it has expanded to 11 volumes, boasting an impressive 4 million copies in circulation.

The animation is being handled by Cypic (formerly CygamesPictures), a studio founded in 2016 that has cultivated a stellar portfolio. Their past projects include the poignant queer horror hit The Summer Hikaru Died, the high-octane sports drama Umamusume: Cinderella Gray, and bold original works like Apocalypse Hotel and Brave Bang Bravern. Notably, their recent film, Umamusume: Pretty Derby — Beginning of a New Era, delivers such breathtaking visual fidelity that it effectively grounds even the most eccentric concepts.

Behind the scenes, the series features veteran director Tetsuya Takeuchi—known for his contributions to Jujutsu Kaisen and Heavenly Delusion—at the helm. The creative team is rounded out by character designer Keigo Sasaki, while Taihi Kimura has been cast to voice the determined Chihiro Rokuhira.
