Sabotage Studio has officially launched the definitive “Sunset Edition” for its acclaimed RPG, Sea of Stars. The announcement, revealed via a dedicated developer update video, serves as both a celebration of the game’s journey and a look ahead at the team’s future endeavors.
The Sunset Edition introduces a polished animated intro cinematic, crafted to provide better narrative clarity while acting as a final stylistic flourish for the title’s development cycle. Beyond the aesthetic upgrades, the update significantly refines the gameplay experience. According to the developers, combat balancing for both Normal and Hard difficulties has been overhauled. By decoupling the Tactician’s Mettle relic into two distinct items—Tactician’s Mettle and Ray of Sunset—players are invited to engage with a “Normal” mode that requires a more strategic, high-stakes approach.
Coinciding with this release, Sea of Stars makes its debut on GOG.com and the Nintendo Switch 2. Those who previously owned the title on the original Switch can access a free upgrade to the new version, which integrates GameShare functionality to support up to three players in local cooperative sessions. Furthermore, Sabotage is collaborating with iam8bit to produce a physical Collector’s Edition, with additional details promised in the coming months.
With this final update deployed, Sabotage Studio is shifting its full focus toward its next major project, codenamed “Project Sparrow.” While the game has been in development for over a year, CEO Thierry Boulanger noted that it has only recently moved into full production, meaning official reveals remain on the horizon.
Sea of Stars: Sunset Edition is available now across PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, PS4, Xbox One, Switch, mobile platforms, and PC. Steam users can currently pick it up at a 50% discount.
