PlayStation 5 Emulator Runs Nintendo Switch Games in Early Tests

Enthusiasts have ported a Nintendo Switch emulator to modded PS5 consoles, allowing Nintendo games to run on Sony hardware in a raw alpha state.

The experimental ProsperoEden emulator has appeared on modified PS5 consoles for playing Nintendo Switch games. Cuphead runs at a stable 60 FPS, Metroid Dread runs at roughly 40 FPS, and several other projects are already booting up.

ProsperoEden is a port of the open-source Eden emulator, which was created using Yuzu code. Developers adapted it for the PS5 architecture so that games can run directly on the console. The project is currently in early alpha testing, running predominantly on firmware 6.02.

Along with Cuphead and Metroid Dread, testers are already evaluating Super Mario 3D World, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Hollow Knight, and Pokémon Legends Z-A. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe currently requires optimization to achieve a stable 60 FPS.

The alpha version relies exclusively on OpenGL, while developers plan to add Vulkan support later. The emulator supports the DualSense controller, save files, and a performance overlay, and players can select between handheld and docked modes for specific games.

The creators emphasize that the compatibility list shows only tested game segments and does not guarantee fully functional performance. The project may also face legal action from Nintendo.
