According to Deadline, Pretty Woman star Richard Gere has been tapped to lead Asymmetry, the upcoming project from Academy Award-winning filmmaker Edward Zwick, renowned for his work on The Last Samurai and Legends of the Fall.

Based on Lisa Halliday’s acclaimed novel of the same name, the film features Gere as Ezra, a 70-year-old novelist who embarks on a connection with Alice, a young editorial assistant portrayed by Diana Silvers. Their deepening emotional bond eventually spirals into a passionate affair that threatens to derail both of their careers.

Halliday collaborated on the screenplay alongside Zwick and Marshall Herskovitz (Love & Other Drugs). The source material, Asymmetry, was famously hailed by The New York Times as one of the most significant books written by a woman in the 21st century.

Gere most recently appeared in the drama Oh, Canada and the espionage thriller series The Agency.
