The New “Hunger Games” Will Be the Longest in the Franchise
Details regarding the runtime for The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping have surfaced. The film will clock in at 2 hours and 38 minutes, establishing a new record for the franchise.
Previously, the title for the longest installment was held by 2023’s The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, which ran for 2 hours and 37 minutes. Since its debut in 2012, the Hunger Games series has become a cinematic juggernaut, amassing a total of $3.3 billion at the global box office.
Sunrise on the Reaping serves as a prequel, set 24 years before the events of the original film. The narrative follows a young Haymitch Abernathy (Joseph Zadra) from District 12 as he competes in the milestone 50th Hunger Games. Throughout the story, he finds himself challenging the oppressive rule of Panem’s leader, President Snow (Ralph Fiennes).
The film is based on Suzanne Collins’ latest novel of the same name. The star-studded cast includes Glenn Close, Elle Fanning, Mckenna Grace, Kieran Culkin, and Jesse Plemons, alongside original franchise icons Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson. Returning to the helm is director Francis Lawrence, known for Catching Fire and the Mockingjay films.
Sunrise on the Reaping is scheduled to arrive in Russian theaters on November 19.
