Nicolas Cage confirms he will star in the fifth season of True Detective
Academy Award-winning actor Nicolas Cage has officially confirmed that he will headline the fifth season of the acclaimed anthology series True Detective. The announcement was made during an appearance at New York Comic Con.
“Since you can’t just keep churning out movies back-to-back—after all, necessity is the mother of invention—and what I mean by necessity is that I have a family to support and shouldn’t just keep piling on film projects. So, I’ll likely commit to one more television series. I believe it might be a season of True Detective. It’s alright that I’m the first to spill the beans on this, right?”
— Cage remarked to the audience.
Initial reports regarding Cage’s potential involvement in the series surfaced during the summer of 2025. The upcoming season is set to take place on Long Island, New York. Cage is slated to portray Henry Logan, a police officer unraveling a complex new investigation. Issa López, who helmed the fourth season, Night Country, will be returning as the showrunner.
Cage recently starred in the series Spider-Noir (pictured), which was canceled after a single season on Prime Video. He is also reportedly in discussions regarding a potential return to the National Treasure franchise and is currently preparing for production on a new Longlegs project.
