The upcoming Resident Evil 9 could have taken a drastically different direction.
Renowned industry insider Dusk Golem previously disclosed that Resident Evil 9 was initially conceived as a cooperative multiplayer experience. However, as development progressed, the creative vision for the title underwent a significant overhaul.
This shift resulted in what became known as Resident Evil Requiem, transitioning the project back into a traditional, single-player survival horror adventure.
Leaked footage showcasing the scrapped “co-op Resident Evil 9” recently surfaced online. Game director Koshi Nakanishi commented on the decision to pivot, noting that the multiplayer-focused build simply didn’t align with the expectations and desires of the series’ core fanbase.
