Resident Evil 2 Remake Sets New Sales Record for Capcom

Resident Evil 2 Remake has surpassed 20 million players, becoming Capcom’s second most successful game after Monster Hunter World.

The Resident Evil 2 remake was released in 2019 and continues to grow its audience years after launch. Capcom previously reported 19.7 million sold copies as of June 30, and now reports more than 20 million players.

Availability on Game Pass and other access methods may have influenced this metric, which is why Capcom used the term “players” rather than “sales.” At the same time, the game maintains a steady pace and could exceed 20 million sold copies in the future.

An additional boost could come from the Nintendo Switch 2 version, which will be released on October 16, 2026. The remake’s success also confirms the demand for major reinterpretations of classic games.

The next title in this Capcom strategy will be Resident Evil Code: Veronica, scheduled for release in 2027 for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC, and Switch 2. The game gained more than 2 million wishlists in a month.
