Report: GTA VI Will Not Allow Free Character Switching Between Jason and Lucia
Players will not be able to freely switch between Jason and Lucia during specific story missions in GTA VI, as Rockstar Games aims to preserve the game’s pace and narrative logic.
Rockstar development head Rob Nelson explained that while players will have substantial freedom in the open world, character switching during story quests will depend on the script.
The developers divided missions into multiple categories. In some, players will be able to switch characters freely, choosing a preferred playstyle. In others, switching will happen at strictly predetermined moments. For example, during a getaway after a bank robbery, Jason initially shoots back at police from the passenger seat before the player takes control of the car as Lucia.

Rockstar will also intentionally block character switching in scenes that require a perspective from only one side. As an example, the studio pointed to an early mission in an apartment high-rise. Control was locked to Jason because of his military background and special forces experience, since handing control over to Lucia at that stage would look unnatural.
