Red Dead Redemption 2 Reference Found in Grand Theft Auto VI

Eagle-eyed fans continue to inspect every frame of the latest Grand Theft Auto VI footage, uncovering a subtle tribute to another Rockstar Games title.

An extended gameplay showcase of Grand Theft Auto VI running nearly 27 minutes, prepared as part of a Netflix feature, contains numerous hidden details and Easter eggs. Fans spotted one of these references tucked away in a background scene.

At the 7:34 mark in the video, while Jason waits for Lucia to get ready, a fictional television commercial airs for the 30,000-calorie Prairie Sandwich Box Meal. In the ad, animals graze peacefully in a green pasture beside a river before gunfire suddenly shatters the idyllic setting.

Viewers noticed that the landscape shown in the advertisement is virtually identical to a location in Red Dead Redemption 2. An X user known as s1nicki identified the spot using the specific curve of the river along with the placement of surrounding rocks and trees. In particular, two large boulders and a tree leaning over the water match the environment from the 2018 western.

According to the user, the location sits north of Annesburg along a river bend in Red Dead Redemption 2. When asked how they recognized the spot so quickly, s1nicki said, “I’m chronically obsessed with RDR2.”

Following the discovery, other community members began comparing frames between both games and posting screenshots verifying the landscape match.

The commercial is not the only apparent link between Grand Theft Auto VI and the Red Dead Redemption universe. Fans have cataloged several small crossovers between the franchises, including reports that Red Dead characters appear on in-game currency in Grand Theft Auto VI and that the fictional firearms manufacturer Duke returns in the upcoming installment.
