A video game archivist known as Yuvi has preserved a rare Japanese Resident Evil spinoff — Biohazard: The Episodes — originally released in 2007 for feature phones.
At the time, so-called feature phones were widespread in Japan — early predecessors of smartphones that supported their own dedicated gaming platforms. Numerous popular series received bespoke adaptations for those devices, including Resident Evil (branded Biohazard in Japan).
During the 2000s Capcom released several mobile entries in the franchise: Biohazard: The Missions, Biohazard: The Stories, Biohazard: The Episodes, and Biohazard: The Operations. Only the first saw an official release outside Japan; the others were long considered lost.
In recent years a group of enthusiasts began recovering these projects by extracting files from old handsets. They have already recovered a demo of Biohazard: The Stories and parts of Biohazard: The Operations — and now they’ve brought The Episodes back.
