Millennials who grew up rewatching 1999’s The Mummy on cable received good news last year when reports confirmed that a new sequel was in the works. Brendan Fraser returns as Rick O’Connell alongside Rachel Weisz, who reprises her role as Evie Carnahan. Weisz was absent from the third movie, Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. Set photos of the upcoming fourth film spread online, showing Evie’s new look and offering a hint about the timeline of the next movie.

The Daily Mail reported on the set photos. Weisz appears on location in front of the British Museum, which serves as a key setting in the sequel The Mummy Returns. According to sources from the publication, the scenes filmed at this location take place early in the new movie.

A transistor radio held by Weisz in the photos suggests the story takes place in the late 1950s. This timeframe falls about 30 years after the events of the original 1926 setting. Plot details remain scarce, and the project lacks an official title.

The Mummy franchise struggled following Weisz’s departure. She did not return for the third entry, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, due to concerns over the script and spending time away from her young son. The studio rebooted the series with Tom Cruise in 2017, but that film met a negative reception similar to the third sequel.

The Mummy 4 relies on nostalgia to revive the franchise. The cast brings back Fraser and Weisz alongside Oded Fehr as Ardeth Bay, John Hannah as Jonathan Carnahan, Arnold Vosloo as Imhotep, and Kevin J. O’Connor as Beni Gabor, who died in the first movie. The film arrives in theaters on October 15, 2027.
