Quentin Tarantino Releases First Movie Sequel Next Month
Seven years after the release of Quentin Tarantino’s period action-drama Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood, the film is receiving an official sequel. David Fincher, known for directing Seven and Fight Club, is helming the direct follow-up with a new story focused on Brad Pitt’s stuntman character Cliff Booth. Netflix released a teaser trailer for the project in February, and the movie arrives in November.
The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth, previously titled The Adventures of Cliff Booth, premieres on Netflix on Dec. 23. Audiences can also watch the film in theaters prior to that streaming release.
Netflix secured an exclusive two-week run in IMAX theaters starting Nov. 25, giving fans an early chance to view the movie on the big screen.
Brad Pitt reprises his Academy Award-winning Best Supporting Actor role as Cliff Booth. While the original story took place in 1969, the sequel is set in 1977 within a very different Hollywood. The cast of The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth includes Elizabeth Debicki, Scott Caan, Carla Gugino, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Peter Weller, Matt Groove, JB Tadena, Corey Fogelmanis, and Karren Karagulian. David Fincher directed the film from a script written by Quentin Tarantino, who has not yet disclosed his tenth and final film-directing project.
Reviewing the original film in 2019, critic Karen Han wrote, “Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood is easily the quietest and most meditative of [Tarantino’s] works, ending with a startlingly soft and sweet moment that contextualizes everything that came before it as, ultimately, a love letter.”

Quentin Tarantino also authored a novelization of Cliff Booth’s further adventures. Book publisher HarperCollins releases The Adventures of Cliff Booth on Tuesday, Dec. 8.
