Publishers Alter Release Plans Due to GTA VI, Triggering Wave of Major Games
The traditional gaming industry “dead season” will not happen in 2026. Owners of PS5 and other platforms face a three-month stretch with a record number of releases, as such a dense schedule has not been seen in a long time.
Dozens of AAA projects and indie games will launch over the coming months. The release calendar is packed so tightly that both players’ free time and their wallets will face a real test.
The November release of GTA VI is cited as the primary reason. Most publishers are trying to avoid direct competition with Rockstar Games’ new title, leading them to shift their projects to earlier dates en masse.
