PS6 production cost has increased by $200 – insider

The manufacturing cost of the PlayStation 6 has increased by roughly $200 and now nears $1,000 according to insider Kepler_L2. This shift may result in the console reaching a retail price close to that figure.

Sony gains nothing by delaying the console launch because the rising costs of memory and storage will likely continue. Kepler_L2 previously estimated the production cost at $760 just a few months ago. The insider Moore’s Law Is Dead provided a similar figure of $743. At that time, analysts expected Sony to target a $699 price point and accept initial losses.

Kepler_L2 now suggests a digital version of the console at $999 is the most probable outcome. If these projections hold, the PlayStation 6 would become the first major home console to enter the market at such a high price.

These financial pressures extend beyond Sony. Microsoft faces similar rising costs for its Project Helix hardware. Kepler_L2 expects potential price hikes for the current PlayStation 5 and the upcoming Switch 2 as well.
