Preview of Global Mod GTA: Carcer City
Despite frequent mod removal demands and bans from Take-Two, fan projects continue to emerge. One notable upcoming project is GTA: Carcer City, which recreates the setting of the original Manhunt on the GTA: San Andreas engine. Carcer City also appears in multiple entries of the Grand Theft Auto series as a composite representation of major American Rust Belt industrial centers such as Detroit, Michigan, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Cleveland, Ohio.
Mod creator DeadpoolMKD and his team are porting object models and textures from the 2003 original game while building an active world with a functioning metro system, local police, and scripted pedestrian and vehicle paths. The team is also introducing new vehicles to increase variety.
The project features a story campaign set in the year 2001. The narrative follows Liam O’Malligan, an unjustly dismissed police officer who now works for criminals and former colleagues. Additional characters include fellow cops and gang members.
The project includes a completed main theme and ongoing development for 10 radio stations.
The first playable demo is scheduled for release on March 9.
