GTA 6 Details Appear in Game Informer Magazine, Including Hurricanes and Over 170 Animal Species

GTA 6 is on the cover of Game Informer, as every major release in the series has been for almost a quarter century. The issue includes a large exclusive feature on the game.

Announcement

Game Informer announced the issue on September 25. It promised a new interview with the leads of the main development areas at Rockstar North, 14 pages about the game written by a Florida-based journalist, and 12 new screenshots. The magazine also revealed the cover of issue 382, which uses previously unseen artwork.

Controversy

The publication drew a lot of criticism. This was not only because the editorial team openly speculated in May about Grand Theft Auto VI to attract attention.

The magazine got plenty of attention, but much of it was negative. Game Informer sharply limited free access to the articles and asked readers not to share the screenshots it provided. The screenshots carry a watermark, and the magazine did not provide full-size 4K versions.

Users found these restrictions odd, since the magazine does not own the rights to the game. Rockstar Games stepped in and insisted that fans be able to read the material. The feature was then made free in the Game Informer mobile app. The app and the official Game Informer website both went down, however. Even when users got in, they met a virtual queue.

Game details

Content posted online rarely stays locked. The full feature, titled “Welcome to Leonida,” became publicly available, and players pulled out the main points that were new or had been missed earlier.

Main characters

• Jason and Lucia can be a romantic couple, or they can stay friends and partners in crime without romance. It depends on the player.
• Their romantic relationship grows stronger if players hold hands, open doors for each other, call each other, answer calls and messages, and agree to spend time together. None of this is required.
• Either way, they are ready to cover for each other when it counts.
• Some story elements depend directly on the relationship between the protagonists.
• Snapmatic constantly shows new posts from various characters. Duval and Caminos post nothing themselves, because they are criminals on the run.

Game world

• The map is twice the size of the one in GTA 5. Its content is more varied and interactive.
• Locations include:
  • mountain bike trails,
  • ATV routes,
  • a mud park,
  • dedicated demolition derby tracks,
  • farms,
  • expensive ranches,
  • private golf courses,
  • coastal dunes.
• Fast travel works through RydeMe, a ride-sharing app. Players can chat with their fellow passengers during the trip.

Where to buy

Game Informer offers only one way to get the print issue, a one-year subscription for $100. Digital access costs $40. Users have still found places to buy the physical issue separately at a reasonable price, both online and at newsstands.
