Pokémon Legends: Z-A Reveals a New Mega Evolution for Garchomp
Announced during the 30th-anniversary Pokémon Presents broadcast, Pokémon Legends: Z-A has introduced a formidable new transformation: Mega Garchomp Z. To unlock this power, trainers must secure the Garchompite Z Mega Stone, located within the elusive Hyperspace Lumiose region. Access to this specific area is exclusive to players who own the Mega Dimension DLC expansion.
The process for obtaining this item mirrors the previous Mewtwo distribution. Trainers must first redeem the “Special distortion detected!” Mystery Gift from the in-game menu. This action triggers a unique hyperspace rift within the world. Upon entering the distortion, you will face off against a powerful Mega Garchomp Z in combat. Once defeated, the Garchompite Z is yours. Equipping this stone to any Garchomp in your party allows it to undergo its new Z-tier Mega Evolution during encounters.
According to the official documentation, the Mystery Gift itself can be claimed by all players regardless of DLC status. However, the Mega Dimension expansion is mandatory to actually travel to Hyperspace Lumiose and engage the Mega Garchomp Z in battle.
The Mega Dimension DLC, which launched in December, significantly expanded the Pokémon Legends: Z-A endgame. While the new forms are a highlight, some players have found the experience somewhat repetitive, noting that the expansion relies heavily on grinding survey points—such as capturing multiple common Pokémon with specific stats—rather than offering fresh, engaging gameplay loops for veteran trainers who already possess high-level teams.
If you are new to the Kalos region and haven’t explored the Mystery Gift feature yet, it becomes available quite early in the campaign. This Garchompite Z event follows a series of impressive distributions, including the Mythical Pokémon Diancie and a specialized Alpha Charizard, providing plenty of incentive for trainers to stay active.
