One of the most iconic superhero television series of the modern era is returning to the spotlight. Pluto TV announced this past Monday that it will bolster its streaming library by adding The CW’s Arrow to its catalog of on-demand content and linear channels, effective May 1.

Debuting on The CW in 2012, Arrow drew its inspiration from the rich lore of the DC Comics archer, Green Arrow. The show emerged during a period when superhero adaptations were often hesitant to fully embrace their comic book roots; notably, the protagonist wasn’t even referred to by his codename until much later in the series, opting instead to go by “The Hood.” The show was defined by its signature blend of gritty vigilante action and the melodramatic flair that became a hallmark of The CW, a combination that ultimately won over a dedicated fanbase.

The narrative centers on billionaire Oliver Queen, who returns to society after surviving years of isolation on a treacherous island. Driven by a mission to rectify his father’s past transgressions, he transforms into a calculated vigilante, patrolling Starling City with his bow and arrows. Over its run, the series expanded significantly, incorporating legendary adversaries like Deathstroke and introducing a rotating ensemble of allies, including Black Canary, Arsenal, and Mister Terrific. As the show matured, it famously began adopting themes traditionally associated with Batman, most notably incorporating Ra’s al Ghul and the League of Assassins into Queen’s ongoing arc.

While DC faced persistent hurdles in establishing a cohesive cinematic universe, Arrow proved that the small screen was the perfect incubator for shared storytelling. The series served as the foundation for the expansive “Arrowverse,” a multi-show interconnected universe that grew to include The Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, Black Lightning, and Batwoman. Through ambitious annual crossover events, these series explored complex narrative territory, including alternate-reality conflicts that predated similar concepts found in modern hits like Peacemaker.

Starting May 1, viewers can catch Arrow on Pluto TV’s on-demand service or through its 24/7 linear channel rotations. The series, which departed from Netflix at the conclusion of last year, will be joined by other popular titles including The 100, Hart of Dixie, and Everwood.
